Communication is GOLDEN in a marriage because it strengthens understanding, trust and emotional connection between husband and wife.

Open and honest conversations help couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts peacfully, and supports one another through every season of life.

Good communication also encourages patience, listening, and respect, allowing both spouses to feel valued and appreciated.

When couples communicate with love and wisodm, they build a stronger, healthier and more united marriage.

Even if you are not an effective communicator, there are other ways of getting your message across without ignoring the situation or each other. When it seemed we had our backs against a wall in our communication, writing a letter to each other, with our emotions fully listed on paper, helped both of us to resolve the issue that was at hand.

Here are a few key scriptures on communication to encourage you both to speak words that uplift, maintain a positive attitude, and keep the atmosphere in your relationship light and loving. All scriptures are taken from the New International Version (NIV).

  • Proverbs 15:1"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."
  • Ephesians 4:29"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
  • James 1:19"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."
  • Proverbs 16:24"Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:11"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

Even after 46 years of marriage, communication takes on an even deeper role. With each passing year, you become wiser, more sensitive, and more intentional with every word you speak.

We encourage you to continue growing and discovering new ways to communicate through the Word of God and through the richness of language itself. Expanding your vocabulary can enrich your conversations and make communication both more meaningful and more enjoyable. Try it with a smile!
