An individual prayer life is essential for personal growth, spiritual strength, receiving guidance, and drawing closer to God.

Taking time to pray alone can bring insight, clarity, and peace—qualities that can strengthen your heart and positively influence your marriage.

Personal time in prayer allows you to gain wisdom, develop patience, and receive guidance that can positively influence your marriage relationship.

Personal prayer gives each spouse time to reflect on matters concerning themselves, their spouse, and their family, seek direction for important decisions, and deepen their connection with God while strengthening character and faith.

Praying together is important, but it is equally important for each spouse to nurture a personal prayer life. A strong individual prayer life can help husbands and wives bring greater love, understanding, and spiritual maturity into their marriage.

Setting personal boundaries is also important. Choosing a regular time for prayer and having a mutual understanding that each of you need quiet time alone with God can help support spiritual growth within your marriage.

We would like to share several key scriptures on prayer to encourage you to communicate with God daily, deepen your faith, and remain persistent in prayer. These scriptures are taken from the New International Version (NIV).

  • Philippians 4:6-7"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
  • Matthew 6:6"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
  • Luke 18:1  - "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."
  • Ephesians 6:18"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."
  • James 5:16"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
  • Colossians 4:2"Devote yourselves in prayer, being watchful and thankful."
  • Romans 8:26 -"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans."

Remember, "Be intentional about your individual prayer life!"
