(2 Samuel 22:34 - NET)

“He gives me the agility of a deer; he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.

(Psalm 18:33 – NET)

“He gives me the agility of a deer; he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.”

(Habakkuk 3:19 – NET)

“The sovereign Lord is my source of strength. He gives me the agility of a deer; he enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain. (This prayer is for the song leader. It is to be accompanied by stringed instruments.)”

Interestedly, there are three scriptures in three separate passages that speak about the feet like a deer.  In the King James Version from all three of the references above, you will find these words “He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet”.

The word “AGILITY” means,

  • Ability to move quickly and easily.
  • Ability to think and understand quickly.

Okay, so let’s take a quick look at these other two words in the NET version.

RUGGED

  • Having a broken, rocky, and uneven surface.
  • Having or requiring toughness and determination.

TERRAIN

  • A stretch of land, especially with regard to its physical features.

How many times have we come against obstacles that seemed unbearable or too hard to climb. What about tough decisions that had to be made. The clock seems to stand still when we have to be quick on our feet, or an answer needs to be had “now”. What do you do when situations like this occur? Do you panic? Find food to eat right quick? Cry? Pace the floor?

These are ‘normal’ reactions but let me encourage you to take a deep breath – inhale now exhale. We have the awesome privilege to bring all our burdens to the L-RD in prayer.

Prayers do not require an appointment and there is no limit how many times to come before our heavenly Father. In fact, He is waiting for us to come to Him, but oftentimes, He is the last on the list or not on the list at all.

There are so many scriptures in the Bible that tells us that G-d is our “source of strength”.

  • He will strengthen us – “It is G-d who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.” (2 Samuel 22:33);
  • He will help us – “Trust in the L-RD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5,6); and,
  • He will guide us – “The L-RD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:11)

Your road may be hard, rocky with uneven decisions that need to be made but we don’t have to go alone on this road. G-d will be with you every step of the way. Trust Him, Believe in Him and allow Him to help you stay alert.  How? Through Prayer and mediating on His Holy Word.

In closing, let us work with agility and trust G-d that He will strengthen you to complete the assignment that He has placed in your life. The road may become rough and uneven at times, but trust G-d to make your feet like the deer. G-d will guide you, give you wisdom and understanding to complete the task. He will open doors that are shut and will close doors that are open. Trust Him and Believe!

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” (Romans 13:11-12)
